Presentation Description:
As part of the $1B Structural Group family of companies, TSTRATA Strengthening Solutions, along with its sister organizations, partners with engineers and contractors to provide assessment, design support, product evaluation, and construction assistance for concrete strengthening and repair projects.
In recent years, two projects—both located in Reno, Nevada, presented complex challenges that required highly specialized solutions. Once implemented, these solutions significantly improved the safety, durability, and long-term performance of the structures:
- Project 1: The owner of a multi-level parking structure originally constructed in the 1960s sought to convert the top level into an automotive museum. This change introduced increased loading demands beyond the original design capacity. We will examine the structural challenges associated with these higher loads and the strengthening strategies employed to successfully accommodate them.
- Project 2: A multi-level parking structure initially underwent repairs for low-level cracking and spalling. However, the unexpected discovery of a post-tensioning (PT) anchorage substantially altered the scope and complexity of the repair effort. Following nearly 12 months of investigation and phased repair—during which access and operation had to be maintained, a successful outcome was achieved.
