Presentation Summary:
In this presentation, Mr. Kleineck will briefly explore the history of Catholic architecture as a language and the re-emergence of traditional architectural forms in the design of new Catholic church projects. He will focus on the challenges associated with building traditional liturgical architecture with contemporary building materials and construction methods and how those challenges were addressed in the structural design of the new St. Mary’s Church in College Station. Features of St. Mary’s which will be highlighted are the column grid layout, dome structure, transfer trusses, and the lateral system.
About the Speaker:
James began his structural engineering career with L.A. Fuess Partners Inc. in 2011 after graduating from the University of Texas Austin with a B.S. degree in Architectural Engineering and a M.S. degree in Civil Engineering. He is now an Associate Principal with the firm and serves as the Director of L.A. Fuess Partner’s Austin Office. He has designed a broad range of project types including data centers, commercial midrise structures, retail buildings, aviation support facilities, parking structures, historical repurposing projects, and churches. In his free time, Mr. Kleineck enjoys studying Catholic liturgy and volunteering with his local parish church in Georgetown, Texas.
