Equity In Engineering

Recent events have brought into sharp focus the persistent inequities in public life, including in our professional lives. Individually, many firms take the hiring of personnel as a sacred duty that leads to a lasting bond of the newly hired employee to the good reputation of the firm. Selection of the best candidate is paramount to both the success of the employee and the continuing success of the firm.

Structural engineers hold a position of trust with our clients and, by extension, the larger society.

The National Council of Structural Engineering Associations (NCSEA) has adopted a statement regarding recent events in recognition of the role each person, firm, and association plays in resolving these issues.

NCSEA also has the ongoing Structural Engineering Engagement and Equity (SE3) initiative with a goal to find and fix the causes for inequities and the problems retaining qualified structural engineers in the profession.
